America’s Small Businesses are Hiring Locally to Keep up with Demand from Sales in China

In celebration of Small Business Month, Alibaba is proud to recognize the American small businesses partnering with the platform to expand their global sales. These businesses are among the thousands of U.S. companies, big and small, that collectively sold over $66 billion in products on Alibaba’s e-commerce platforms in 2022. American businesses can create jobs back home by growing global sales on Alibaba.

Adirondack Fragrance & Flavor Farm, a small family business based in Potsdam, New York, is upgrading its business infrastructure to help the company expand globally. Alibaba has played a major role in its growth strategy. “When we try to grow our business, the first thing I think for the China market is Alibaba,” said CEO Yen Maine.

Other American brands are also ramping up hiring to keep up with the demand they’ve had from Chinese consumers. “DS Laboratories’ sales on Alibaba exceeded expectations by 50% in the first year,” CEO Fernando Tamez reported. DS Laboratories, a leading dermatological brand specializing in science-backed haircare and skincare, is hiring more employees at its headquarters in Miami, Florida, to keep up with the growing demand for its products in China. Tamez added, “At first, Alibaba seemed too good to be true. Now, we’re jumping into every single program they offer.”

Timberwolf Pet Food, a premium pet food brand based in Dallas, Texas, experienced similar results on Alibaba, achieving 7-figure growth after launching on Alibaba’s e-commerce platforms in 2021. As a result, Timberwolf is growing its team in the U.S. “We’re hiring more employees at our headquarters in Florida, as well as remote employees,” COO Kam Martin shared.

When asked about Timberwolf’s business outlook, Martin added, “I honestly feel like the sky’s the limit. We’re carving out a unique export space for pet products. We aim to be the number one cat food exporter from the U.S. [and] I think we can achieve it through Alibaba.”

Alibaba is proud to work with America’s small businesses to help them engage with over one billion consumers in China and, in turn, support local economies in the U.S. A NDP Analytics study reported that in 2021, U.S. sales on Alibaba supported 390,000 American jobs and $31 billion in wages.
