N.Y.-Based Adirondack Fragrance & Flavor Farm Expands Reach to China – Creating More Jobs Back Home

Adirondack Fragrance & Flavor Farm, a family-owned business based in Potsdam, New York, has been designing and crafting fragrance products for over 43 years. To further grow their business, the brand has partnered with Alibaba to expand in China.

As the purchasing power in China rises and there has been an increased desire for higher-end products, the Adirondack Fragrance & Flavor Farm’s product selection is perfect for the Chinese consumer base. The partnership with Alibaba will help them grow their sales and, in turn create more jobs in the Adirondack region.

“I’m very proud that from this little spot of the world, I can make somebody happy so far away,” said Sandy Maine, Founder, Adirondack Fragrance and Flavor Farm. Whether someone lives in a high-rise in a crowded city or on a farm down the road, the company’s mission is to reconnect them with nature by bringing the wilderness of Adirondack Forest and its unique botanicals into their homes.

Yen Maine, CEO of Adirondack Fragrance and Flavor Farm, is at the forefront of pushing the brand to expand in China. When asked about the brand’s global growth strategy, Yen stated, “When we try to grow our business, the first thing I think for the China market is Alibaba.”

Through the partnership with Alibaba, Adirondack Fragrance & Flavor Farm is building a “mini store” on Alibaba’s Tmall Global platform. The “mini store” is a perfect solution for small businesses to enter the Chinese market with minimal costs and the largest reach. “As a small business, we don’t need to invest upfront, and it’s commission-based, so it’s really the best choice for us to enter the market.” Alibaba’s incubation feature also gives them the capability to expedite the launch of their best sellers within just 90 days.

Yen believes that succeeding in China “will mean we have captured the biggest consumer group in the world. We can use this as the stepping stone to for more international success.”

Yen and Sandy hope to establish the Adirondack Fragrance & Flavor Farm as a prominent international brand and are excited for the expansion opportunities presented by their Alibaba partnership. “Our partnership with Alibaba will enable us to create more job opportunities in the Adirondack region, while also sharing the natural beauty of the Adirondacks with people worldwide through our clean fragrance products,” says Yen.
